Coming Soon: A Good Man Is Hard to Be

On May 1, 2017, the official Indiegogo campaign launched for A Good Man Is Hard to Be, a short film that takes inspiration from Flannery O’Connor’s classic short story, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find.” The story fascinated director Michael Yu when he first read it in an English class in high school. O’Connor’s mesmerizing style, powerful themes, and ability to create such uniquely unbearable characters served as major influences for writers Samantha Gessner and Michael when developing the screenplay for the film.

The team consists of many students and recent graduates. While the production is small, the aim is to reach far and wide. The market and fan base for O’Connor’s work is passionate but limited, and that’s something Michael would like to change. Through the film, he hopes to bring more exposure to O’Connor and Southern Gothic literature in general to modern day audiences.

Production so far has been accomplished through the team’s own resources and volunteer work, but a larger budget is needed to finish the project at the level of quality they’d like. With this Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, the team hopes to raise over 30 days the funds for this budget.
