Andy Johnson

Andy Johnson was born in New York to parents from Arkansas. During childhood visits to the family farm, he learned about juke joints, sweet potato pie, 10 ounce soda bottles, and hoodoo. These days, Andy is learning the fine art of motorcycle repair.

Andy graduated with an MFA in Creative Writing from The University of Alabama. He teaches literature and creative writing at UA. His short stories have appeared in Kweli Journal, Echolocation, and African American Review (forthcoming). His manuscript The Covenant of Salt captures the dislocation and chaos of post-war Liberia, where he lived for two years. He is also writing Okaihika, a collection of short stories exploring African American mythology in the South. He lives in Tuscaloosa.
